Gather all of your dental records, in advance and bring them with you on the first appointment. You’ll need to provide your list of medications and surgeries as well.
Your orthodontist will examine your teeth, review your history, and determine how to proceed with treatment. They will likely also take X-rays to see how your jaws are aligned, as well as check for any gum disease or tooth decay and other dental problems that you may have before developing your custom treatment plan.
They may recommend that you address dental issues with your regular dentist before undergoing orthodontic care. You will have a chance during this visit to ask any about any concerns or questions you may have. Then, you will make an appointment to begin your first treatment.
