The period for orthodontic treatment is dependent on your specific needs. These treatments may take weeks but often can take up to a year or two, sometimes longer.
Symptoms that may indicate the need for orthodontic treatments can include pain around or near the temporomandibular joint, or temporomandibular disc disorder. Other symptoms may include headaches, difficulty chewing, excessive grinding or clenching of teeth, earaches, and difficulty swallowing.
Your orthodontist will determine when treatment is successful and may recommend the use of a retainer for up to two years after orthodontic treatment.
Be sure to follow all recommendations for your oral hygiene and care given to you by your orthodontist to increase the success of your treatment.
