Cavities are a common dental issue that can happen to everyone, but the process of having a filling can cause some anxiety. Thankfully, dental procedures have come a long way in recent years, and it is now possible to get a cavity filled with little to no discomfort at all.
The process to place a filling is relatively simple, but it does require several visits to complete. During the first visit, the dentist will numb exposed nerves in the tooth and remove any decay. Then, an adhesive is used to secure the filling in place while more of the solution sets into place for added strength. Next, your dentist will fill the hole with either resin or metal to finish.
Fillings are intended for minor to moderate levels of tooth decay. If your dentist determines that you require a crown or your tooth is too large to be filled, they will recommend additional treatment.
